Pure Silk Lightweight Green Scarf Botanically Printed
Description
A lightweight pure silk scarf with rolled hems which has been printed using local leaves and flowers and dyed with reed flowerheads (phragmites australis) which give this gorgeous green. Phragmites have a short flowering season, and I harvest the mature deep red/black/purple flower head plumes from local marshland areas. I then steam them in large pots in my garden studio to produce the dye and freeze batches of it for use throughout the year. I printed this scarf using virginia creeper, physocarpus, macleaya cordata (plume poppy), cranesbill, sumac and bidens leaves, sprinkled with cosmos, coreopsis, and bidens flowers. The varying shades of green, from intense blue/green to pale sage are interspersed with golden yellow, orange coreopsis and blue from the pink cosmos flowers.
My Process:
Natural dyeing requires very careful preparation of the fabric, to remove anything leftover from the manufacturing process, and to then treat it so that the dye colour will be long lasting. I use some powdered dye extracts as well as dyes from my own dye garden and surrounding plants. i regularly forage for leaves on my walks and from my own garden plants which iIve selected for their printing properties. My mental map of my local area is formed around the trees and plants I have come to know and love, whether in car park, on a roundabout, deep in the forest, or outside the local scout hut! Fabric and leaves together are steamed for one to two hours to extract the pigments from the leaves and flowers leaving their beautifully detailed shapes and veining immortalised in the fabric.

Fabric Care Guidance:
All naturally dyed textiles can fade over time, and to keep them looking fresh and colourful, it is best to avoid prolonged exposure to bright sunlight.
Hand washing in pure soap or using the hand wash setting on your washing machine – avoid any detergents which have brightening agents in them
Silk is best ironed when damp.

14 days on clothing items only.
I will accept returns on clothing items which are found to differ from the description I have provided or have faults which were not described. I strive to create accurate listings and measurements and therefore will not accept items that do not fit you.
All return postage must be paid in full with adequate insurance coverage.
