Featured Products

As promised we’re going to be adding more ‘stuff’ to this website this year. The first major update is the featured products page. We haven’t included a featured products page earlier because we didn’t want to be the ones responsible for what gets picked, but we’ve found a way round that. Each month we’re going to invite a guest curator to pick their five favourite products on Shop N.O.A. These guest curators can say as much or as little about why they’ve made their choices and anyone at all can have a go. Seller, buyer, browser – anyone can put their name on the Wheel and stand an equal chance of being chosen. Just fill in the form at the bottom of this page.

“Well how do you choose 5 favourites from 91 artists?!! I was going to start by looking at the logos that stood out to me, but then looked at mine and it doesn’t hold up with some of the refined and professional looking ones on here so I thought that maybe that isn’t the best approach, then I thought maybe I should exclude the artists whose work has already been selected but at the end of the day the brief is to select my 5 favourite pieces of work, so I have taken the time and looked at all 91 artist’s work. I reduced it down to a long-list of 15 artists, then went into each person’s store to select my favourite pieces and finally after more selecting and eliminating here are the 5 that I have selected for this month’s Featured Products. I am all about natural fibres, nature, practical, functional items, crafts and skills, but am learning to appreciate that anything that makes you happy is valuable, so they’re in no particular order.”

“I have selected this soap from The Hedgewitch Soapery. I liked the ethics of the company, I only buy handmade natural soaps and get so much pleasure every time I use a soap, I will be buying some of these to try but I selected this green one for the colour, usually I would go by the smell. “
“Michelle Leaver Jewellery – I liked quite a few pieces of work on this shop, these earrings caught my eye for the lovely red hearts against the blue and I feel I would enjoy wearing them.”
“Gorgeous Gourds, apart from being aesthetically beautiful, the effort to grow these and turn them into these beautiful lamps caught my attention. The solar powered lamps particularly stood out for me, though I did like them all, I had to choose one so this is it.”
“Marian May Textile Art. I selected this particular scarf as it is everything I love, I am a forest school leader among other things and spend my time in the woods with the trees. I related to Marian’s story around her connection to the trees and her local area informing her work, she has used an organic cotton scarf too and some locally sourced plant dyes..”
“Mr Watson Design – I love the retro style of all of the prints, I found it very difficult to choose my favourite picture, but the birds stood out most to me, I selected the goldfinches because they reminded me of when I was very young and had my first garden patch, I grew cornflowers and they were visited by goldfinches when they went to seed”

“As a wire worker, I’m naturally drawn to metal, fibre and textile work made by others! I’m going to try and choose 5 varied makers across the genres….I say try….”

“I am in awe of how Helen Knagg has mastered her wire technique, producing instantly recognisable flora and fauna.”
“Jackie Ward’s talent as a sculptor is only matched by her humour! Her work always brings a smile, her words, a laugh…what a great combination!”
“The astounding crochet artistry of Jody Slatter… Using ombre dyed yarns, that she herself distributes in the UK. She hunts out vintage doily patterns and hey presto!”
“Leavon Bowman is a painter sorcerer, transforming a canvas into ocean….absolutely divine work.”
“Jenni Joule’s metalwork looks like it was made in a bygone era. I love her forms, surface treatments and colour combinations. A true artist.”
