This is is a beautiful, lightweight handknit and beaded shawl, modelled here by my fabulous assistant Drusilla. It is perfect for most occasions.

It took many hours of work to create this shawl. It is made from a blend of Bluefaced Leicester wool, alpaca and seacell (a cellulose fibre made from seaweed) which was hand dyed in a gradient from a natural mid brown, through orange-reds, purples, blue and finally green. I spun this into a single ply yarn of varying thickness and then knitted this into a triangular lace-patterned shawl, with over 600 stitches in the final rows.

The beads were added to the shawl as I knitted, there are around 400 on this shawl. The beads are the best quality Japanese Toho glass beads, in a stunning glowing amber hue.

This shawl is absolutely unique and will never be recreated, just like you!

Width from tip to tip – approx. 150cm
Depth from centre neck edge to centre bottom edge – approx. 55cm

This item will be shipped to you both tracked and insured.

Please note that if you are not used to wearing alpaca garments you may find this a little tickly to begin with.

Additional information

Wharfedale Woolworks began in 2010, when I took redundancy from ma dull office job and opened an online shop, originally offering hand-dyed yarns and fibres. After completing a Masters degree and taking on a new job I no longer had time to dye on a regular basis, so took a break for a couple of years. This year, after reducing working hours for a better work-life balance I am now re-opening and offering hand dyed yarns, handspun art yarns, prepared fibres in different formats for spinning and also some luxury hand knits and woven textile wall hangings.

I am autistic and suffer from fibromyalgia and depression.  I’m also awaiting assessment for ADHD, so all of my fibre related activities are highly therapeutic and restorative. I take great pride in my work and I value my time, so items are priced to account fairly for this. I hope you gain as much enjoyment from my products as I did from their creation.
