Description
This is a beautiful, and quite unique circular & textured woven wall hanging incorporating several of my own handspun yarns, alongside a commercially spun Blufaced Leicester boucle yarn which I have hand dyed & comercially spun two-ply Shetland yarn in several colours. The piece is finished with a quirky ceramic button featuring an octopus.
The handspun yarns are a soft, coiled blend of Corriedale wool, yak hair and rose fibre, a more textured coiled blend of Romney wool, linen and silk, a tweedy spiral spun yarn comprising merino wool, shredded sari silk fibre and angelina fibre, a lockspun Cotswold wool yarn and a banana fibre singles yarn.
This woven piece measures approx. 18cm in diameter (across the frame). The button measures approx. 2.5 x 2.5cm. The complete length from hanger to bottom of frame is approx. 36cm. The circular frame, which I have wrapped with shetland yarn, is made from sustainable bamboo.
My woven wall hangings are all unique and take many hours to complete, from spinning the yarns, through weaving, to embellising with embroidery, beads or buttons to finishing by securing all of the ends and attaching the hanger. They are usually fairly abstract in nature but based around a theme.
This piece is the first in a limited series inspired by these lovely Octopus buttons and the famous song.
