Fused glass curve – with woodland scene with deer grazing

Description

A fused glass curve that stands firmly on its own.

The base glass is pale warm green with pale green (almost white) swirls in. Each sheet of glass is unique and this part lent itself to a woodland scene. The back of the glass is white glass to keep the top pattern as visible as possible.

Once the glass is fused, metallic copper enamel was screen printed on the top and then back into the kiln to curve and ‘bake’ the enamel.

The stag almost looks like he is standing in a beam of moonlight.

Please note – the enamel has been fired but a lot of effort with a metal scouring pad will do damage – so the advice is to gently hand wash when needed.

Dimensions:
Height: 14 cm
Side to side: 18 cm
Depth of curve: 5 cm

Care: handwash as needed (see above comment)

Hi! I’m Kate and I’m a part-time glass artist from Desford, Leicestershire. I have been glass fusing now for over 4 years and have a small studio space at home.
For me, glass is addictive – the colour and the way that light sends patterns through it. There is nothing quite like the feeling of opening the kiln lid – and it worked! It doesn’t always but you can always ‘make lemonade from lemons’ and recycle the glass – even the tiniest piece can be used.
The glass I use comes, mainly, as sheet glass which is then cut (by hand and sometimes saw) but I also use glass powder, glass frit (coarse powder – think caster sugar up to seasalt in size) and murrini (specially shaped very small glass pieces created by very talented people).

I tend to make either geometric pieces (my ‘other’ job is teaching maths) or nature (my other love). No piece will ever be identical to another even if I use the same colours – but you will get the piece in the photo. This is why there is only ever ‘one available’.
I hope my glass brings colour and a smile into your home- and that you will be able to enjoy it for years to come. If you are gifting, then I hope it makes them smile too.
